February 1, 1939 –

Gilbert Barrientos Born 2/1/1939 in Dallas Texas to Manuel and Sista Barrientos. In his early years he attended bible school and became a youth leader. He met his wife Rachel Barrientos at church and the married in 1962. They soon had their first son Richard Barrientos in 1963. Gilbert enlisted in the marine reserves soon after and served 6 years and was honorably discharged as a corporal. Gilbert started his career as a helper at the Rice Hotel in downtown Houston and worked his way up to pastry chef then assistant chef where he learned his trade that would polevolt him to an enormous success as a restaurateur owning several Mexican restaurants which provided a comfortable life for his family as he was blessed with another son Daniel Barrientos in 1967, then a beautiful daughter Sabrina Barrientos in 1980, and his youngest son Gilbert Barrientos in 1992. Throughout Gilbert’s life he took great pride and joy entertaining friends and family with outstanding cuisine and cutting edge ideas such as “queso fumado” which was presented flaming out of the kitchen and served table side. Gilbert’s favorite hobbies always included cooking, but he also enjoyed exercising and eating healthy. He was always in great shape and well dressed. He was also committed to taking his daughter Sabrina on long walks and to his gym faithfully as she was his brightest light until his final days. Gilbert is survived by his 4 children, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, as well as a hist of loved ones, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, family and friends who will cherish fond memories and continue his legacy.
