Lois Lorene Burns
March 14, 1925 – August 25, 2022

Lois Lorene (Polk) Burns passed in peace to eternal rest on August 25, 2022, at the age of 97 in her home in South Houston, TX. Lorene came into this world on March 14, 1925, to Thomas and Edna Mae Polk. The eldest of nine children born to Thomas and Edna Mae, Lorene was the quintessential mother to her younger siblings then to her own seven children, twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren.

South Houston, TX was where she lived most of her life and raised her family but Rosebud, TX was home. A home that held some of the fondest memories for all her family and some of the most heart-wrenching memories that no one should have to bear.

She was pure magic in the kitchen with endless mouths eager for a taste of peach cobbler, chocolate pudding with meringue and sweet pickled peaches. Having a passion for sewing and a skill that was started and perfected over the years with her momma she literally clothed and kept warm many generations of her family with handmade clothes and quilts that are still treasured to this day. She soothed many a child, grandchild and great-grandchild as she rocked them off to sleep and sang with a voice that was so full of love. She never met a stranger and talked to everyone and anyone. She worked hard inside her home to take care of her children and when she was 44 years old, she started working for 7-11 and devoted 17 years of her life until she retired. She had a strong faith and love for God. She could sit for hours and tell stories from the bible and her childhood.

She was welcomed home by her baby, Junior, her husband, Leonard Burns, her momma, Edna Mae Polk, her sons-in-law, Jamie Price and Richard Skrobarczyk, her grandson, Darryl Skrobarczyk, her granddaughters, Alexis Burns, Stephanie Williams and Jenefer Price, and her great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Perkins.

She is mourned and remembered by her daughters JoAn Shoemake, Jeri Griffith, Lois Skrobarczyk, Sandy Perkins and Tommye Price, her son Lynn Burns, her sons-in-law Johnny Shoemake, Eddy Griffith, Eddy Perkins, her daughter-in-law, Danna Burns, her grandchildren, Courtney Gisele, Joey Kingsbury, Sarah, Amanda, Christine, Jonathan and Isaac Skrobarczyk, Sylvester, Amy, Rebecca, Paula and Janet Perkins, Veronica Espino, Nicole Fiasco, Renee Cates, Kimberly Land, Caitlin Price, Brittney Rodriguez, Haden and Mason Burns, and her great-grandchildren, Tyler Williams, Joey Kingsbury, Bridgit, Xavier, Samantha and Aaron Skrobarczyk, Joe Davis, Destiney, Sandra, Sylvester and Wyatt Perkins, Leticia and Benjamin Perkins, Julian and Lillian Nieva, Thomas Diaz, Jacob and John Escobedo, Morgan and Gage Bryant, Vivienne Espino, Aaron Poston, Autumn and Ellanora Fiasco, Haley, Alyssa and Brooke Cates, James, Jesse, Jaliyah and Jane Driggers Price, Khloey, Shade and Willow Land, Jamie, Ellie and Jennifer Villarreal.

I always loved when Aunt Lorene and Uncle Leonard would come visit and bring the truckload of some of my favorite cousins. We would go romping in the creek and frolicking in the country. Mom would throw down quilts for us to line up on and go to sleep. I miss those days. Hugs and love đź’śđź’śđź’śđź’ś

Having grown up across the street in South Houston I can attest to the kindness and patience Miss Burns as she was called by us. Having to put up with Lynn and I was no easy task. She was even kind enough to make me my own pair of hand made shorts. The Burns house hold was a big part of my childhood. I loved the homemade pancakes she would make us in the morning. Lynn and I even convinced her to let us come to work at 7 11 all night. No idea why she agreed but she did.
I know the Burns family lost a great mother and Grandmother. She has always been a part of my childhood and she is missed.

She was a good neighbor for many years and was friendly and loved her family and worked hard every day to take care of them. I know her family will miss her.

I grew up with Lynn ,Mike Shaw, and the rest of the neighborhood kids since we were around 5 or 6 years old. Mrs Burns was a kind soul & full of patience to put up with all those kids running around in the neighborhood, hanging out in the Burns house and sleep overs almost every weekend. When she wasn’t cooking , I always remember a bunch of Shipleys doughnuts ready for us on Sunday mornings. My condolences to Lynn and all his sisters and all the grandkids. Your mom was part of all our childhood memories and she will be missed in the community.
