Oscar Parrish
October 1, 1939 – October 25, 2022

     Oscar Parrish quietly passed into eternity with Jesus on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at the age of 83. Oscar was born in Houston on October 1, 1939 to Charlie and Manuela Parrish, as the youngest of nine children.  After high school in 1956, he enlisted in the U.S Army and served in Germany, Korea, and two tours in Vietnam, until he was honorably discharged in 1968.  After returning to Houston, Oscar married Rose (Rosie) Marie Martinez.  He had a long career working for the City of Houston in various departments, eventually retiring as a senior superintendent in the Department of Parks and Recreation.  After retirement, Oscar made his home with Rosie in Webster, TX.  They both enjoyed following the Houston Oilers, Texans, and Astros, and often had season tickets to Oilers games.  Oscar also enjoyed playing maracas, which he obtained in Mexico, and he was an avid fan of boxing.  He loved playing poker, horseshoes, and going to the shooting range.  

     Oscar was preceded in death by his eight siblings and wife Rosie.  He is survived by six children:  Raymond Parrish and wife Connie of San Antonio, Carlos Parrish and wife Sandy of Houston, Ursula (Uschi) Parrish Oswald and husband Zdenko of Sandhausen, Germany, Mary Ann Parrish Williams and husband Dale of Santa Fe, TX, David Blase of San Antonio, Michael Esparza and wife Lisa of Houston, and Jennifer Parrish Cantu and husband Randy of Houston.  Oscar is also survived by twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service Information

     Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Sunday, October 30th from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm, as well as the funeral service on Monday, October 31st from 10:00 am to 12:00 p.m.  Both will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 8706 Almeda-Genoa Rd., Houston, TX 77075.
