Annelise Ferdous Bhuiyan Hohenberger left this earth at the age of 5 on July 8th, 2024. She was born to Arlene and Travis on December 11, 2018 in London, UK while her parents were working and studying overseas. At the age of 4 months, she was diagnosed with a rare genetic mutation in her SYNGAP-1 gene, a condition that brings cognitive and speech challenges. Despite this, Annelise flourished under the care of her parents, doctors, speech therapists, and teachers. She attended Montessori on the Park in Bow, London. In late 2020, she moved to Sugar Land, TX and continued her education at Sharp Minds Academy (SMA) where she received exemplary care from Ms. Raquel and Ms. Erica. On May 27th 2024, she graduated from SMA with the Most Improved Award, a result of her academic work both inside and outside the school setting. At her time of passing, she was regularly using 5 and 6 word sentences, a truly remarkable result.

Annelise enjoyed the outdoors, especially the beach and water parks. She was very athletic and learned to ride a pedal bike without training wheels when she was barely two. She played sports such as baseball and soccer with her brother, Theo. She paid very close attention to him all the time. He was a wonderful brother who always had the patience to help her learn. She also liked playing hide and seek with her cousins. Her cousin Scarlett has generously declared her the best at hiding and finding.

At times, Annelise’s frustration with communication led her to become grumpy. In these times, she would often calm down by going on her “relaxing walks” by being pushed in the stroller. She also soothed herself by taking her Puppy Kenzo on “bark walks”. She herself learned to nurture. She would take excellent care of her babies (dolls), placing them in strollers, giving them “bobos” (pacifiers), and putting band-aids on their ouchies.

Annelise absolutely loved her grandparents: Nana, Nanu, GiGi, and Big Papa. If she learned that she would be visiting them, all she would talk about is getting on an airplane, obsessively. It is no wonder, as they gave her the best gifts like pink unicorns and elephants. She also enjoyed when (aunt) Bebe (pronounced “Bee-bee”) would be flying in with trappings from D.C. and Benson Puppy.

Annelise is survived by her parents, Travis Hohenberger and Arlene Bhuiyan Khan, her brother Theodore Hohenberger, her grandparents Lutful Bari Bhuiyan, Leena Ferdous Khan, and Gary and Gina Hohenberger, and her aunts Beena Bhuiyan Khan, Kacie Reimer, Lexi McNair, and Keely Hohenberger-Lopez.

A visitation will be held for Annelise Ferdous Bhuiyan Hohenberger on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. with a service at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 8706 Almeda Genoa Rd. Houston, Texas 77075. Burial to follow at 4 p.m. Morton Cemetery, 401 N 2nd St. Richmond,Texas 77469-2802
