We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved father Mauro Castillo, 89, of Houston, TX. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 5th, surrounded by his wife and children.

Mauro holds many titles: loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; musician and recording artist; voracious reader; devout Catholic; friend and colleague. More than anything, he was loved. He unofficially adopted some of our cousins as his own children, and they also took care of him in his final days.

He taught himself to play the accordion at the age of 20, and played professionally most of his adult life.

He led by example, modeling a strong work ethic that his children and grandchildren will always admire. He only stopped working when his arms and legs no longer cooperated.

He was preceded in death by his son, Miguel Angel. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maria Castillo, and their children: Lupita Attar (Eddy), Rosario Castillo (Felipe), Alberto Castillo (Griselda) and San Castillo Jones (Christopher). He is survived by 14 grandchildren: Hugo Luna (Melissa), Leslie Renteria (Patrick), Esmeralda Luna (Marcus), Angel Castillo (Priscilla), Christian Castillo, Alan Castillo, Victoria Castillo, Fernando Guerra, Eric Guerra (Alexandra), Sean Merla, Wesley Castillo (Andrea), Alberto Castillo Jr., Giselle Castillo, and Charlotte Jones. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren.
