Rosario (Chayo) Diaz Mata was born on October 7, 1951 and passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in Houston, Texas.

“Chayo” or “Chayito” as she was often called was the “Mother hen” of the family. She never married and had no children of her own, so she dedicated her life to caring for children. She took care of her siblings, her nieces and nephews and when the nieces and nephews became parents themselves, she cared for those children as well. She was also very instrumental in helping care for other families’ children. Chayo was a kid at heart and her love for children was so pure and sincere.

Chayito’s hobbies included collecting Knick knacks of all sorts of things – key chains, wallets, pieces of paper with her writings, notepads and anything that would be eccentric. She would also do crafts such as rope key chains and necklace beads. Chayo enjoyed going shopping with the family, going to party events and she loved, loved going to the slot machines – Las Maquinitas – as she would call it. At family gatherings, Chayo was known as the news reporter because she had the latest and greatest scoop on everyone – who was mad at who, who had a new boyfriend/girlfriend, etc. Chayo also liked to reminisce on the past and share her childhood stories with the family.

Chayo was so beloved and we were so blessed to have her in this lifetime. She will be tremendously missed and forever loved.

Chayo is survived by her sisters Francisca Diaz, Adriana Ramirez, Ramona Maldonado and husband Carlos Maldonado, and Cleopatra Diaz; Brother Juan Diaz and wife Rocio Diaz; Nieces Veronica Beatrice Diaz, Eloisa Seydler and husband Clay Seydler, and Sara Ramirez; Nephews Miguel Martinez and wife Valerie Martinez, Douglas Diaz, Carlos Diaz, Alejandro Diaz and wife Mercedes Diaz, Abraham Diaz, Gabriel Limas and wife Nelly Limas, Alfredo Limas and wife Elizabeth Limas, Cristian Limas and wife Brenda Limas, Franky Ramirez and wife Mandy Ramirez, and David Maldonado; And a host of great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews; And adopted families.
